“Give me your lunch money punk” Dez demanded.
I was being held upside-down again for the third time this week by that big and I mean BIG jerk, Dezmond Karonie the 3rd. But we call him Dez because other-wise were toast.
“Well it’s already fallen on the floor so if you let me go” I said hopefully. “Deal” Dez rumbled. “Ow” I muttered as he dropped me on my head.
I, Carter, was an average 8th Grader. With too big sneakers, ripped jeans, a T- shirt, and shaggy hair.
“Here it is but me mom will kill you for it.” No she won’t because you won’t tell her.”
RING RING
I was saved by my old companion the lunch bell.
“Saved for now” he said as he ran off laughing. If there’s one thing Dez likes more than bullying its food. Well long story short I made it through the day safely (except for algebra,) and at the end of the day when Dez caught up to me at the bus stop.
“I said ‘for now’, Rat.”
“It’s C-a-r-t-e-r Car-ter, go-.”
“Don’t tempt me, or else.”
“And what is ‘or else’”.
“You know what.” He said shaking a meaty as he ran to catch the bus.
∫
“Got to go mom, love ya!” I yelled as I ran out the door.
Hello, my name is Kathrin Sadie Lee, and I am part wiz- oohh never mind let’s get back to the story.
Anyways I ran out the front door, and as I ran to the bus stop I caught a glimpse of the weird kid Carter, I think, who lives down the street.
Any who when I got to school Mallory (a popular girl) was waiting for me at the doors. “You should have agreed to my … deal.”
The deal was that if I was her friend she could access my large sum of money (thanks to my mom.) I always said no.
As I ran to my classroom I muttered “no thanks.” I was running to gym when… uhh.
∫
Algebra. I hate algebra, Carter thought. But I had studied hard. So I started running to algebra when… “ow”
“It’s Kathrin right?” I said as I recognized her as the girl who lives down the street.
“Yeah” she answered back rubbing her head. “Aren’t you Carter?”
“Yeah” I replied. “What’s the rush?”
“Ms. Orth, you know the new history teacher.”
“Really, me too, sadly.”
RING RING
“Let’s go we” both said together.
History was just as boring as usual.
“Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
∫
Blah.” History was so boring that I almost fell asleep, and I would’ve if it wasn’t for Carter (Who kept poking me.) I thought about my cat at home, she is gray and has beautiful green eyes.
The teacher had just started our homework assignment. There was a rumbling, and the ceiling came down.
Just as everyone had calmed down a strange man in a suit drifted down into the classroom and asked.
“Who took the Box?” and looked around.
I was shaking, for I knew this man, I had stolen from him, I had the box.
∫
“Hay Kathrin did you feel that earthquake earlier today, that was pretty cool.”
“Yea about that.”
“Go on.”
“I’ll tell you on the bus, K.”
Well later on the bus Kathrin pulled me to the last seat on the bus then she took out her walking stick that she always that carried around with her, and sort of drew a rainbow in the air.
“Why did you just wave your staff in the air like that?” I asked.
“It’s a staff, and to make sure no ones eavesdropping.”
“So you mean like a wizard staff?” I inquired.
“So as to not get into the details, I shall say it simply. Yes, oh, and F.Y.I. there was no earthquake today.”
∫
So, I told him every thing. I finished with, “come over to my house right after you drop your backpack at home.”
He seemed strangely calm about the whole magic thing.
So, right after we had gotten off the bus, he was ringing the doorbell.
My robot butler, James opened the door to show Carter’s solemn face.
“My grandpa died yesterday, his funeral is tomorrow.”
“Well,” I said, “I may have something that will cheer you up.” “James, go get him…?”
“Lemonade.”
“Yes, on it Master Carter.” He responded in a robot voice.
“Did he just call me, Master Carter?”
“Yeah, I programmed him to do that.” I said, hoping I wasn’t blushing. “Anyways, the Box. Yea, yea, The Box.” I said leading him down the hall to a room with signs on the door saying “Caution,” “Danger,” Etc.
